Four years and three days ago at about 3:30 pm we saw Big Brother’s face for the first time. Yup, we got our referral. We had been waiting almost a month (not really a long time, but it felt like an eternity) and we had just decided to call every Monday afternoon to see where we were on the (adoption) list.
So, Hubby calls and the woman in charge of referrals asks, “so, do you want a boy or a girl?” Hubby tells her we have no preference, we just want to leave it in God’s hands. She says, “Yeah, but do you want a boy or a girl?” To which, he responds, “No, really. Whichever comes first.” Then she says, “I have a boy and a girl sitting right here, which one do you want?”
We were flabbergasted. We had been hoping to have moved up on the list, but not to be being offered our choice of two children. We hemmed and hawed about it and really did not know what to do, until she finally said, “Well, if it is a fate thing his information came on my desk first.”
That clinched it and we were having a baby boy. It was such and amazing day. At that point we would have said it was the most exciting day in our lives, but then we went and he was placed in our arms. None the less I just love looking back on that day and remembering the sequence of events and how wonderful it was.
