Time flies when you have a kid. And there’s no way to hit the pause button to make it stop.
Those in the process of an adoption or even pregnancy want time to fly by and be with their child NOW and not when it happens and then when the baby/child arrives we immediately want time to slow again and move at a snail’s pace. We only get so much time for leave from work, or we want to experience each age/stage/phase fully before we move on to the next (though there are a few phases I wish I could fast forward through already).
Every morning I get a few hours of uninterrupted play time with Little Man and Little Princess and every day I wish that that time would slow down – this time is when they laugh and giggle and play games with each other. Some mornings they want to read for hours and others play with the balls or just about anything – but every morning I want that time to last forever. I hate when I realize it is lunch and nap time as I know that playtime has ended and the next step is there. It makes me sad to see play time over (because there is never a guarantee that they will take a long enough nap and have a great afternoon as well) but I must move on to the next stage of the day – just as we as parents must allow our children to move on to the next stage.
While I know we have been home three months, I have days where it feels like just yesterday and I am sure I could point to a few of you who have been home at least a year and your would say the same thing. I have lots of friends with children and it seems like just yesterday that some of them were born and now those same children are working on crawling, walking and running (heck one of those children is 2 – and I still remember her as the little glow worm she was the day she came home from the hospital).
So while there are definitely days that I wish that I had a fast forward button – I am glad that I don’t because I would hate to miss out on the kisses and giggles! (And those of you who are taking pictures and posting them every day I LOVE that idea what a great way to look back and remember all the wonderful times and I seem to be able to take the pictures – it is posting them that I forget!)

Wow, great article
THANKS for sharing!!! My oldest is about to turn 6, and I totally agree with you! It goes too quickly!
