In the age of Lightning McQueen, a Mom can just not drive fast enough. Ever. Her 3-yr-old in the back will never think she is a respectable driver unless she’s passing every car they see. That mindset can also create moments of pure love and admiration when she does, in fact, pass every car they see, even if said cars are driving like 30 mph where the limit is 40.
Will: Mom, we’re catching up to that car!
me: I know, Will, we’re going to pass it. Watch.
Will: Here we go!!! Here we go!!! We did it!!! (I am not overusing punctuation here. He really was that excited)
me: We did it! We’re awesome.
Will: Yeah! We are awesome.
(not wanting to create a false sense of awesomeness that could result in even-more-obnoxious-than-necessary teenage boy behavior, I made it into a teaching moment)
me: Will, do you know why we’re awesome?
Will: Why?
me: Because God made us, and God doesn’t make mistakes. He made us just like He wanted us to be. That’s cool, right?
Will: Yes. And God likes it when we pass all the other cars.
