One of the things we have done with the kids since they were little little - is play “High - Low” at the dinner table. We each take a turn going around the table and tell the high point and the low point of our day. It is a great way to start conversation, get the kids talking and make dinner a social time. I remember being a kid and racing in from playing, shoving as much food in my mouth as humanly possible, choking down a glass of milk and tearing back out to play. I look forward to dinner time as a chance to catch up on what happened at school, work and around the house. The best part is that most of the time Ethan or Avery initiates it.
Today was the first time that Olivia has chimed in and it was darn cute! She has sat at the table with us for 2 1/2 years and tonight she decided she needed to get her “high” and “low” in. Even if both of her items were “highs” - I don’t think she understands what a “low” is yet. For the record, her highs were going to church and going to nursery. She especially liked singing “Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree” and she favored us with her version (complete with hand gestures).
If you don’t play “High - Low” with your family, you should start. It is a fun little tradition and it is a great way to communicate with the kids.
